After a cold and snowy winter we are all happy to welcome the arrival of spring here in the Portland metro area. Spring cleaning can be a major project that involves cleaning, de-cluttering and reorganizing our homes. Preparation can go a long way and make the daunting task of house cleaning a little easier. Here are three steps to help you prepare for your spring cleaning project.
1. Make a List: Step one is to make of list of all the items, rooms, etc. you’ve been thinking of (or putting off) that need to be cleaned/organized. A good way to do this is to simply walk through your home room by room and create a to-do list for all your cleaning and organizing tasks. Finding what areas of your home you need to clean will aid you as you make a plan and start cleaning.
2. Cleaning Supplies: Now that you have your list made you can begin gathering the supplies you’ll need for cleaning. Scan your list and identify what supplies you have and what cleaning products you will need for each cleaning task. You don’t want to be in the middle of cleaning when you realize you are out of something. Also, you can make your own nontoxic cleaning supplies using white vinegar and water, or hydrogen peroxide and water. Baking soda works well for scrubbing too.
3. Schedule: Spring cleaning is not fun, but it’s worth it when you feel your surroundings are fresh and clean. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be finished in one day. Use your cleaning list you have made and schedule the items on your calendar. Divvying them up into small tasks and scheduling your spring cleaning into smaller jobs will help make the process less stressful and will also give you more time to get out and appreciate the spring.
There you have it! One thing to consider with tougher jobs or hard to reach places, you may want to hire a professional residential or window cleaning company. The same goes for carpets.
